Thoughts on Faith and Being Strong...

The silent debate that always promises my eyes being opened to something I’ve never noticed before begins in my mind…
“My faith is really strong right now.”
Wait, that makes it sound like all the strength is coming from me. And I know it’s not! So maybe…
“God is really strong right now.”
That’s not right either!
“God is really strong – always and forever.”
Then… in that case…
“My faith is really strong – always and forever, because God is really strong – always and forever.”
When my faith doesn’t come from me, when I feel like I am not really strong in my faith right now, when I have more questions than answers and could so easily walk away and never, ever return… He keeps the faith in me.
In the Old Testament, we read story after story about the people of God who were sent into countries with hostile inhabitants. The people of God were never strong enough to fight those armies and win… but time and time again, God came through for His people with the most unique war strategy:
“And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.’”
Exodus 14:13-14
“You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.”
Deuteronomy 3:22
My friend, God’s strength is no different today than it was back then. He never asks us to fight alone. In fact, most times He doesn’t ask us to fight at all – that’s His job. And where your strength ends, that’s just where His strength begins. Sometimes God might even put you in those places where you fail, just so His strength can be everything that you depend on. It was never about you; it was all about Him.
“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
