What Do We Do With Doubt?
Doubt is something that many of us experience, even when we love God and want to have strong faith. Sometimes we have questions, feel unsure, or wonder why God is allowing certain things to happen. Having doubts doesn’t mean that we have lost our faith. It means we are human, and sometimes we need to bring those questions to God.
So, what do we do when we experience doubt?
1. Bring Your Doubts to God
We don’t have to hide our questions from God. He already knows what is in our hearts, so we can come to Him honestly. We can pray, “God, I’m struggling to believe right now. Please help me.”
In Mark 9:24, a man cried out to Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
I love this verse because it shows that we can have faith and still struggle with doubt at the same time. We can ask God to strengthen the areas where we are struggling.
2. Go Back to God's Word
When doubt starts filling our minds, we need to remind ourselves of what God has already said. Our feelings can change from one day to the next, but God's Word remains true.
Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Spending time reading Scripture, praying, and remembering God's promises can help us build our faith again. Sometimes we don't need a new answer—we simply need to be reminded of the truth we already know.
3. Remember What God Has Done
When you're going through doubt, think about the times God has helped you before. Remember the prayers He has answered, the doors He has opened, the strength He gave you when you thought you couldn't keep going.
Psalm 77:11 says, “I will remember the works of the LORD.”
Remembering God's faithfulness can give us hope when our current situation feels uncertain. If God was faithful before, we can trust that He will continue to be faithful.
4. Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions
Having questions doesn't make you a bad Christian. God isn't afraid of our questions, and we shouldn't be afraid to bring them to Him. We can seek answers through Scripture, prayer, and wise people who can encourage us in our faith.
James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.”
When we don't understand something, we can ask God for wisdom. He invites us to seek Him.
Keep Holding On
Doubt may come, but we don't have to let it control us. Faith isn't always about having every answer. Sometimes faith is choosing to trust God even when we don't understand everything.
If you're struggling with doubt today, don't run away from God—run toward Him. Pray honestly. Open His Word. Remember His faithfulness. Ask questions. And keep seeking Him.
Your doubts don't have to be the end of your faith. They can become an opportunity to grow deeper, seek God more, and discover that He is faithful even in the moments when we feel uncertain.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” — Hebrews 11:1
