“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’

Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’”

Isaiah 6:8, ESV

King Uzziah had just died. Prophet Isaiah was in mourning, along with the rest of the nation. But one day Prophet Isaiah had a vision.

In his vision, Prophet Isaiah saw the Lord Himself, sitting on His throne. The train of His robe filled the temple. Angels gathered round about, singing “Holy! Holy! Holy! The whole earth is full of His glory!” The place was shaken with the wonder of it, and smoke filled the temple.

I can just imagine Prophet Isaiah falling on his face, tears streaming down his face. “Woe is me!” he cries. “I am undone! I am a man of unclean lips – and yet my eyes have seen the King!” He is afraid. Sin cannot exist in God’s presence.

Have you ever seen the glory of God and felt “undone”? Have you ever tasted and seen that the Lord is good and felt oh, so unworthy of His love? Have you ever asked, oh God, why are You so good to me?

One of the angels takes a live coal from the altar. Touching Prophet Isaiah’s lips, the angel promises, “Now your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is purged.”

Then the Lord speaks, and all heaven stops to listen. “I need someone to go for Me – someone who will spread my glory across the whole earth. Whom shall I send? Who, oh, who will go for Me?”

I can just imagine the tension in that moment. Who will go? Who will spread the glory of the Lord across the whole earth? Will anyone volunteer their life?

Prophet Isaiah lifts his head. Humbly, he speaks. “Here I am, my Lord. Send me.”

If you have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, if you wonder how He could love you so much, He calls you today. “Go for Me. Spread My glory across the whole earth.”

And the best part? Just like the angel anointed Prophet Isaiah’s lips with the live coal, so the Lord anoints you with His Spirit, cleanses you from your self, and gives you all the tools you need to shine His glory. He will never call you without promising to be all you need.

So what is your answer?

“Lord, here I am! Send me!”
