The Irony of Jesus, and Why I Write

“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”

1 Timothy 1:15

When Jesus was on this earth, He didn’t seem to do many productive things.

He healed a lot of people, but those people got sick again later.

He preached to crowds, but they didn’t understand.

He mingled with the masses, but to them He just seemed like any old rabbi with strange thoughts.

He told stories, and those people just laughed over the funny parts and went home in the evening and weren’t much changed.

Jesus didn’t even travel very widely. He just stayed in a tiny area the size of the US state of New Jersey His entire life.

But His life changed – saved – the world.

And several years later, four people came along and wrote it all down. And even now, two thousand years later, people pore over those stories. They have lasted. They change people. And they might even mean more to us today, in different ways, than they did to the people then.

That’s why I write. Words have power like nothing else. They’re my footprints. My life is short; I can only reach so many; but my footprints will last. When the dust settles at the end of tomorrow, someone is going to see these words, and it is my prayer that it just might make a difference in their life.

Because it just may be the greatest thing you’ve ever done: May your stories, may your life, may your words always point to heaven.

“Thus says the Lord:

‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom

Let not the mighty man glory in his might,

Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

But let him who glories glory in this,

That he understands and knows Me,

That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.

For in these I delight,’ says the Lord.”

Jeremiah 9:23-24
